Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official said the incident made him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
